Baby Loss Awareness Week:

For Baby Loss Awareness week 2023 we joined the wonderful chapel team on level 1 at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital one evening. There were a few reflective spaces where you could plant forget-me-nots to take away, candles to take home and light, messages to tie to an indoor tree and little angels that could be tied to a small metal tree. These could be braided (if you had the skill) or simply tied. A member of the chaplaincy and some of our befrienders were present to talk to as well. It was a lovely peaceful space to visit and the outside tree was beautiful.
Starlight Walk 2023

We had a lovely evening again this year with 107 people coming on the night for soup and roll, companionship and a walk under the stars. We are already thinking ahead to next years Starlight Walk, so keep an eye out for more information in 2024.
Information and craft stand at Norwich and Norfolk Hospital
22nd June 2023
For Sands Awareness Month we teamed up with the chaplaincy at the NNUH to have a table with information and craft activities in the hospital. We had some interesting and useful conversations with staff at this event.
Maker’s Festival 11th and 16th March 2023
We returned to the Maker’s Festival at the Forum in Norwich again with a stall for making memories. Our bunting materials were available for anyone who wanted to have a try and also we showed how to make origami stars and stitch simple flowers with material. There was lots of chatting and introducing people to the charity who had previously not heard of us. It really is a lovely way of meeting and supporting people.
Creative Wellness event 21st January 2023
Our Chair attended this event at the Forum in Norwich with a stall of all our information and bunting materials. Many people came for a chat; some to learn what we are about and some for support. It was a truly worthwhile day.
Starlight Walk 8th October 2022
The lovely people at Flint Barn, Whitlingham Broad, got us ready for our 6km walk twice around the broad, with a lovely cup of soup and a roll to see us on our way. It was a truly beautiful night, with the stars and moon shining brightly. We’ve had a lot of comments about how much people enjoyed it and found it a lovely way to remember their baby/babies. With everyone’s very generous help we have raised £1,130! So a huge thank you to everyone who took part and to all who donated and supported people in this way.

Craft Fair 12th June 2022

A massive thank you to all of the wonderful and talented stall holders we had come to our craft fair. We had a huge range of crafts and managed to raise awareness of baby loss and give support to people at the same time.
Norfolk Sands at the Norfolk Makers Festival on 9th, 12th and 19th March 2022
Norfolk Sands had a stall at the Norfolk Makers Festival in March, at The Forum in Norwich. We invited attendees to make bunting pennants to celebrate their families and/or remember those who have died, whether due to Covid or for other reasons.
The pennant could be taken home or, if made in memory of a baby, it could be attached to Norfolk Sands’ bunting to be displayed at our events throughout the year. We provided guidance on embroidery, cross stitch and crochet techniques. All materials including fabric, needles, thread, buttons, beads and yarn were provided. No crafting skills necessary as we helped with techniques where possible and believe that crafting should be accessible to all as it’s a wonderful way to express yourself. This thought was echoed by many attendees who stopped at our stall.
The event was very successful, with lots of people stopping to talk, many who did not know who we were. It was lovely to see people have a go at a skill they hadn’t tried before and our befrienders were there for anybody who needed to talk about their loss.

Memory Making Workshop at Norwich Theatre Royal, 15th March 2022
As part of Norwich Theatre Royal’s Creative Matters season, we hosted a memory making workshop, where we invited people to come and make a piece of bunting in memory of a baby who is important to them. It replaced a workshop planned for 2020, cancelled due to the Covid pandemic.
Starlight walk, 9th October 2021
A 6km walk around Whitlingham Broad. Everyone who joined us for this walk had a good time (although their feet may have been a little sore the next day!) and with everyone’s very generous sponsors and donations we raised over £1500! We’re hoping to run this event again this year, so keep an eye on this page for more information.
